Ukraine–Thailand press briefing on international cooperation and regional security

May 29, 2026

On May 29, 2026, the Thai-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce supported and participated in a major press briefing held by Chargé d’Affaires of Ukraine to the Kingdom of Thailand Viktor Semenov, dedicated to Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine and the development of Ukraine–Thailand bilateral cooperation.

The event brought together journalists from leading Thai media outlets and became one of the Embassy of Ukraine’s largest media engagements in recent years.

During the briefing, Viktor Semenov informed participants about the current situation in Ukraine, developments on the front line, and Russia’s continued missile and drone attacks against Ukrainian cities and communities. Particular attention was given to attacks targeting civilian infrastructure, residential areas, cultural sites, and Ukraine’s energy system.

The discussion also addressed Russia’s systematic war crimes, including the unlawful deportation of Ukrainian children, attacks on critical infrastructure, the treatment of Ukrainian prisoners of war, and the use of prohibited chemical substances on the battlefield. Separate attention was dedicated to the nuclear and radiation security risks caused by Russia’s occupation of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant since March 2022, described as an unprecedented example of nuclear blackmail.

Participants additionally discussed the environmental consequences of the war and the large-scale mining of Ukrainian territory. It was emphasized that the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant in 2023 became one of the largest acts of environmental terrorism in the 21st century.

The briefing also highlighted Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to document war crimes and strengthen international mechanisms aimed at bringing Russia to accountability.

Viktor Semenov stressed that Ukraine remains committed to achieving a comprehensive, just, and sustainable peace based on the UN Charter, respect for sovereignty, and territorial integrity. The importance of continued international pressure on the aggressor state, stronger sanctions, and consolidated international support for Ukraine was also emphasized.

Particular attention was given to the positive dynamics of Ukraine–Thailand relations and cooperation within international organizations. Gratitude was expressed to Thailand for supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, providing humanitarian assistance, and engaging with Ukrainian international initiatives, including the International Crimea Platform, Grain from Ukraine, and the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children.

The event concluded with an open discussion with journalists, who had the opportunity to address additional questions regarding the current situation in Ukraine and the future of Ukraine–Thailand cooperation.

We highly value the role of the media community in delivering truthful and objective information about Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and its global consequences.
